Motherboards
( 23 products )The mainboard - The base of every computer
.
The mainboard, also called motherboard, represents in its extensive function the fundamet of every computer, on which further hardware components can be installed.
In addition to the socket for the processor, there are also slots for memory, various expansion cards, such as sound or graphics cards, and other hardware components.
Decisive for the designation of the motherboard type is the installed chipset from AMD or Intel: Depending on whether it is a mainboard for AMD or a mainboard for Intel processors, it is designated differently. All well-known manufacturers, such as ASROCK, ASUS, GIGABYTE or MSI, installed chipsets from both manufacturers and offer boards in different versions and designs.
Mainboards are also differentiated in their form factor. These describe standardized dimensions for different application areas. The most common formats are Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX / mATX, ATX or E-ATX.

What do you need to consider when buying
.- Socket: which processor do you want to mount? When buying a processor and motherboard, you should always consider the compatibility of both products. Here, check whether the CPU fits on the socket on the motherboard.
- CPU cooler: Which CPU cooler do you want to mount? Check whether the future cooler fits on the existing holes in the motherboard. If the cooler is delivered with the processor as a boxed variant, the holes usually fit the corresponding socket. If you want to install a different cooler, find out for which sockets corresponding processor cooler is designed. .
- Form factor: In which case do you want to install the board? Depending on the case, different form factors are supported. Find out whether the motherboard form factor and case are compatible. .
- Interfaces: Which interfaces and connectors do you need? Depending on the manufacturer and chipset, the motherboard's ports and slots vary. You should check which interfaces, such as PCI Express or M.2 SSD, are important for your application area and whether they are available.
