( 39 products )The processor - The heart of the computer
.The processor, also called CPU (Central Processing Unit), represents the core of the PC. The task of the processor is to control and execute all computing operations.
CPUs have evolved tremendously over the years: Nowadays, processors have several cores and can thus execute several million instructions per second. The computing power - i.e. the clock frequency - is measured in hertz or gigahertz (GHz). Furthermore, some models have integrated graphics, which enable an application without a dedicated graphics card.
Intel is among the best-known manufacturers of processors. Depending on the application area, other series are recommended: While Intel Core processors are predominantly used in the consumer and office sector, Intel Xeon processors are mainly used in the high-end and workstation sector.
What you have to consider when buying
.- Requirements: What are the CPU requirements of your system? Compare the system requirements of their used Softwares and select the suitable processor. Office applications often need less processing power than software in the gaming or render area.
- Socket: Which socket is installed on your motherboard? Intel divides its range into different socket types. The most well-known sockets are probably Intel LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1200, LGA1366 or LGA2011.
- Cores: How many cores does the processor need. Depending on the area of application, different models are recommended. The number of cores provides information about how many computing operations can be executed simultaneously. Often one speaks here of Quad-Core, Hexa-Core or Octa-Core processors. .
